Why I write

Why I Write

To avoid therapy
To create my own reality
To dream big dreams
To emote, laugh, cry
To self reflect
Because I believe in the powers of words
To express what I’ve learned
Because I can’t draw

***

Why do you write?

As I was thinking about this question, I remembered, I also write so I can forget.

I was watching JJ Abrams TED talk on ‘The Mystery Box’ and his grandfather’s love of taking things apart. When I was reminded of my own father’s desire to do the same thing. Then I realized I couldn’t remember what my father said, after I had asked him why he had removed the engine from our white Ford Granada.

Ford_Granada_(North-America)I had written it down and now I’ll have to go through my barely existent filing system on my C:/drive to find his answer.

Often writing is my way of letting go, setting fire to the photographs, putting the lid on the box and closing the door. So I’ll have to rewrite my poem from 2007.

To self reflect
Because I believe in the super powers of words
To express what I have learned
Because I can’t draw
And to forget.

Writing helps me too and reading your poem, I see that I write for similar reasons as well. That is when I do write. Keep writing. You are very good at it. 🙂

Thank you dear. Writing is my sanity! But I have to admit, sometimes I write myself into a corner too!
