I loved Project Hail Mary! How can I talk about this without giving anything away? And that ending!

I didn’t even know that Andy Weir, who wrote The Martian had written another book.

Good movie adaptation, but the book can’t be beat.

Wait, what? He wrote ANOTHER book between The Martian and Project Hail Mary? And it was voted best sci-fi of the year by Goodreads readers? Oh my word. I might have to go on a sci-fi bender.

According to wiki, “Set in the near future, the novel centers on junior high (middle) school-teacher-turned-astronaut Ryland Grace, who wakes up from a coma afflicted with amnesia. He gradually remembers that he was sent to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light-years from Earth, to find a means of reversing a solar dimming event that could cause the extinction of humanity.”

And I really can’t say anything more without spoiling it, except that it’s very science-y, and I’m not, but I enjoyed it. PHM made me laugh and cry. Have you read it?

Andrey Kurkov’s Grey Bees was my winner for April. One of those books that combines humour and an otherwise dark topic with touches of humanity.

I became absolutely ENAMORED with the mirror visitor quartet — it was the first series I literally read for hours nonstop until my eyes hurt. The first book is called “a winter’s promise.” It reminds me of His Dark Materials; it’s got that whimsical fantasy feel, with really unique characters. If you’re in the mood for that kind of fantasy, I highly recommend it!

I watched the movie the martian and I really enjoyed it. Andy Weir’s books are so popular, I should just give in and read one! lol. Maybe I’ll start with Hail Mary.

Behind the Story

I’ve been reading the Louise Penny Inspector Gamache books recently. I’m currently reading #5. Maybe I’m stuck. But I enjoy them. I like the Quebec setting, and the characters are fully fleshed out. She does a lot with understanding people and their motivations.

It seems I am abandoning more books than finishing them at the moment, Lani. I’ve tried to read The Prague Cemetery by Umberto Eco, but I’ve decided it is perhaps not for me. Also with the daylight hours increasing at the moment, I find that I fall asleep at night after reading only two or three pages. I guess summer is not for reading. 😆

  I totally understand. I go through those as well, those phases where I’m more interested in the internet for some light looking around than investing into a story!
  
  Or as you say, read a few pages before passing out. 😛 The latter is much more my speed, which is why I’ll never be a speed reader!

I’m not very science-fiction-y, like not all all. So, I haven’t read any of those (and didn’t see the movie adaptation of the first). You’re making me think like maybe I also need to go on a sci fi bender!

I’ve read all three of them – and loved them all!!!! 😃 Project Hail Mary was just super amazing! The ending, right? I mean – whoa!! Blew my mind away! So happy I’m not alone with loving his books so much! 😍 Xxx
